Life in La Cala de Mijas

La Cala de Mijas was a farming village of nineteen families before tourism arrived, and today it is a seaside resort within Mijas Costa, with Calahonda and Riviera as its neighbours. Its main beach is of dark sand, and the coast around it holds Cabo Rocoso, El Bombo, El Faro, El Charcón and Peñón del Cura.

Four of the coastal watchtowers along this shore are listed as Bien de Interés Cultural, and one of them now houses an interpretation centre. Inland, golf has shaped the area since 1989, when La Cala Resort opened with three 18-hole courses, Campo América, Campo Asia and Campo Europa, together with a nine-hole par-3 course.

Mijas records an average temperature around 18 degrees, rainfall below 600 mm and about 2,920 hours of sunshine a year. In the summer calendar, the Calapop and Flamenco festivals are held in August, and the Noche Celta takes place in June.

Renting it out
